Intermediate (50/70)

Intermediate, or 50/70, is a division is for players age 11 – 13 years old.  As the name indicates, this is an intermediate division, serving as a transition between the majors, or Little League Division, and Juniors. “50/70” refers to the pitch distance of 50 feet and the base path distance of 70 feet. Up to this point, players have been on a 46/60 field. This division introduces players to “open base” rules, allowing them to lead-off from bases and steal on the pitch. It also introduces pitchers to throwing from the stretch. This allows players to play the same version of baseball they see players from high school and up but offers a smaller scale field to adjust to it.

Season:

The season will begin in mid-April. The 50/70 division requires inter-league play, typically with Johnston Little Leagues. There will 2 weeknight games per week. Most, if not all games, played at Doanes Park will begin at 7:30 pm or 8:00 pm. Games at other parks will begin at either 6:00pm or 8:00pm. This is an exciting opportunity for players to experience playing under the lights.

All-Stars:

All players living within the Southeast Polk Little League boundaries, or attending a school within the boundaries, will be eligible for All-Stars. Teams are decided based on coach nominations and a voting process. If picked for All-stars the player will be expected to be available for practices and games from late June through mid to late July (depending on how far they get in the tournament).

Uniform:

A jersey and hat will be provided.  Players should check with their coach for the color of baseball pants they will need.  Players will need cleats.  This division allows metal spikes, however, it is recommended that players stay with plastic cleats.
